Not just for brides, but not really for grooms either.
However, there’s hope.
The registry is meant to provide the bride with things she and husband would need during their first year. Originally the bride would bring her own stuff to her new home. This small bundle was called a trousseau and would often include doilies, linens, lingerie and other personal items. Over time, cash became king and a dowry was more important than the goods one could carry in a small bundle. The trousseau became more of a hope chest of starter items that the bride and her mother were responsible for filling. Now the duty has spread to family and friends...hence the registry to help them know what to buy. You should start planning your registry six to eight months prior to your wedding and completed two months before the big day (or one month prior to the bridal or couple’s shower).
